Young Carers often find caring for a family member rewarding, but it can also be incredibly challenging. It may impact their schoolwork, friendships, and overall well-being. That’s why we provide support to Young Carers in the Castle Point and Basildon area—helping them take the breaks they need and deserve.
We offer support to Young Carers across the Castle Point and Basildon areas. Our Young Carers group provides a welcoming and supportive environment where children can relax, be themselves, and enjoy a variety of engaging activities.
Regular sessions are held at our Benfleet centre on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, as well as during school holidays. These sessions have been extremely well received by both the Young Carers and their families.
In addition, we now run Wednesday evening sessions in Basildon at Frypa Hall, also from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
What Is A Young Carer?
A Young Carer is someone under the age of 18 who provides care and support to a family member who:
has an illness or disability
struggles with drug or alcohol use
This family member could be a parent, sibling, grandparent, or another close relative.
What We Do
At our Castle Point Young Carers group, Monday evenings are all about building essential life skills. What started as self-defence classes, funded through a generous grant, quickly became a powerful tool for boosting confidence and supporting anger management. Today, these sessions have evolved to include hands-on activities like cooking, giving young carers practical skills they can use every day.
On Tuesday evenings, the focus shifts to variety and fun. From quiz nights to arts and crafts, each session offers a chance to relax, be creative, and spend time with others who understand their unique experiences.

Funding
To help with our funding, we hold fundraising events to raise money for our Young Carers group. Any funding we receive goes towards giving our Young Carers fun and valuable evening activities.
We have now received funding for cooking classes which will run for a 6 week period. We are incredibly grateful that we get to give our Young Carers enjoyable sessions whilst teaching them important life skills all because of the funding that is donated to us.
